I have been trying to get a firewall setup for some time now. I have
used the FAQ for a quide, also a book that I have. The bottom line is that
even though everything "looks" good...it isn't working. Now I realize that
this might be a stretch, but I am wondering if maybe the problem is
hardware. I am using 2-3Com 3C905B NICs. I thought I saw a blurb that the
3com cards were not help in high esteem. Would I be better off getting a
couple of Intel NICs and replacing the 3Com NICs ? I am running out of
things to try and hate to give up.... I can post the dmesg if that would
help, or anything else that is relevant. One thing that I have noticed and
do not know how to diagnose is that at boot, when the network cards are
being referenced...I see the the network cards being loaded and for each of
the two cards there is a line that says: Command never finished. I have
no idea what command that is, but since the cards are otherwise working I
am not sure if it is the problem or not.
Thanks....Gary
Setup...
Pentium 133 MHz
64 MB RAM
1 GB SCSI Drive
OpenBSD 2.6
2 - 3Com 3C905B TX NICs
DSL Router -> Hub Hub <- Desktop Boxes using
192.168.1.x
^ < - OpenBSD Box ->^
The Desktop boxes can ping both NICs on the OpenBSD Box, but not any
farther than that. Also, they can not ping or telnet to a FreeBSD box that
is on the same hub as the DSL router....in otherwords, packets do not seem
to be getting any farther than the OpenBSD box.
