installation problem

I'm trying to install the 2.6 release on a old P 150 MMX machine.
Installing from the boot disk the system halts saying:

apm0 at bios0 fatal protection fault in supervisor mode
trap type 4 code 0 eip e023042e cs 8 eflags 10296 cr2 0 cpl 0
panic: trap

please reboot.


what must i do (except rebooting of course)?
