pppd fails with "LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
CONFIGURATION-------------------------------------------------------
Alpha Multia
OpenBSD 2.3 (recompiled with all patches)
Zyxel 14.4 modem
PROBLEM-------------------------------------------------------------
When trying to get a network connection going with pppd/chat, the
chat script finishes, but then pppd fails every time with:
...pppd[1182]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyC0
...pppd[1182]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
...pppd[1182]: Connection terminated.
I can consistently get a connection using the "ppp" package either
interactive or in the background. As soon as I connect, the
following is printed to the terminal:
...pid 21411 (ppp): unaligned access: va=0x1ffffee4a pc=0x12001311c
ra=0x12001311c op=stq
...pid 21411 (ppp): unaligned access: va=0x14004c08a pc=0x120013b54
ra=0x120013b54 op=ldl
This set of messages is repeated 5-6 times for op=stq and op=ldl
with various hex valus, but the outcome is a successful PPP
connection.
Here is my options file:
/dev/ttyC0
19200
debug
kdebug 2
lock
mtu 1500
modem
crtscts
defaultroute
ipcp-accept-local
ipcp-accept-remote
noipdefault
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/ppp/chatscript"
I'm not sure how related this is, but when the multia boots, the
following warnings appear:
com0 at isa0 port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4: ns16550a, 16 byte fifo
alpha_shared_intr_establish: com0 4: warning: using edge-triggered on
level-triggered
com1 at isa0 port 0x2f8-0x2ff irq 3: ns16550a, 16 byte fifo
alpha_shared_intr_establish: com1 3: warning: using edge-triggered on
level-triggerd
QUESTIONS------------------------------------------------------------
Am I overlooking something obvious?
Why would using "ppp" consistently work, but "pppd" consistently
fail?
Does the edge/level triggering for the COM port have anything to
do with it? If so how do I fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Marty
