Hi Guys,
I am attempting to perform a CDROM install using the official OpenBSD 2.6 CDROM
on a Digital 3000-300. The system is being run using the serial console port,
having set jumper W2 for such inside the box.
In a nutshell this fails, on loading the "2.6/alpha/bsd.rd" kernel with the
following messages: (I have appended a full log of system startup, both boot
attempts and printenv o/p at the end of this message).
---------------------------------------------------
tcasic at mainbus0 not configured
WARNING: can't figure what device matches "SCSI 0 4 0 0 400 0 FLAMG-IO"
root on rd0a swap on rd0b
panic: cpu_initclocks: no clock attached
syncing disks... done
dump to dev 601 not possible
rebooting...
---------------------------------------------------
Interestingly the operational kernel "2.6/alpha/bsd" loads quite happily,
detecting hardware, and only panics (quite reasonably, since it is being booted
off the cdrom) in attempting to load init.
Anybody have any good ideas, since my degrees of freedom here are quite small
(the system does not have a floppy drive!). So far, since the boot message
mentions problems in finding a SCSI device, I have tried changing the CDROM's
SCSI ID to 0,2,4 & 6 without success.
As can be seen, the power on self test mentions SCSI problems (only seen with
the CDROM on the bus), but since it seems to read it OK, I have not worried
(maybe wrongly) about it. (In my professional life, I have seen many instances
where Digital H/W does not get on too well with generic SCSI devices - the
CDROM is a standard 30speed PC type device).
If as well as answering to the group you could copy me at gary_(_at_)_whitehead_(_dot_)_com, I
would be grateful.
Cheers,
Gary.
