well i got that message with my LinkSys "Ether16 10BaseT LAN Card (PnP)"
which supposedly uses the ne2k driver.
Here is the output from the dmesg..
isapnp0 at isa0 port 0x279: read port 0x203

ne3: where did the card go?!
I read the `ne' man page, and it describes the card as "not responding to
the configuration sequence". So, what now? is this an IRQ problem, or do I
have to bring the card back to the store?
