SVGALib/Quake problem

I'm trying to run quakeworld/squake, which uses svgalib. Heres what I
get..

svgalib: can't open /dev/console
bsd#

It should run, because I have linux emulation from the ports tree...here
is my information for /dev/console:

crw------- 1 root wheel 0, 0 Jul 15 22:32 console

and the symlink used to access the console...

lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 12 Jul 8 21:55 tty0 -> /dev/console

-------

Any idea whats wrong?
