rdate -s in crontab gives weird info in "last"?

I have the following entry in root's crontab file:

# do the time thing
*/15    *       *       *       *       /usr/sbin/rdate -s <ntpserver>


Where <ntpserver> is the FQDN of my NTP host.

When I do a last log, I get (among regular logins):

date      {                         Fri Feb  5 15:00 
date      |                         Fri Feb  5 15:00 
date      {                         Fri Feb  5 14:45 
date      |                         Fri Feb  5 14:45 
..
..
date      {                         Fri Feb  5 14:15 
date      |                         Fri Feb  5 14:15 


Anyone else think this is strange?
