while it may be true that someone can choose openbsd.x where x is a
top level domain, maintaining control of .org, .com, and .net should
solve many/most of the problems as org com and net are tld's that
people often think of first.
domain names (assigning and arbitrating) are a big problem in many
ways.

I am afraid that paying for openbsd.com is not a total solution.
Anyone can get openbsd.net, openbsd.to, openbsd.gr.jp, or any other
domain name openbsd.* and ask for us to buy it. We cannot pay for all
of them.
