gcc 2.8 ?

Am I missing a subtlety of the development process, or is gcc 2.8 in the
tree but with an explicitly different branch.

If I want to try gcc 2.8, do I need to force a specific revision cvs
checkout ? Should I wait until the branch is merged into the main
trunk ?

I am still finding it dificult to keep up with tree changes with just the
commit messages to go by.
