There seems to be a problem in the sk driver, at least in the
single-attach multimode fiber model (9843 SX), which manifests in a
system hang if there's no carrier on the sk interface. Once carrier
is established, the system performs reasonably.
I am adding a single sk multimode card to a system which has an Intel
fxp, and two Adaptec quad-port sf NICs. Yes, I'm too cheap to buy a
real router for this test-lab application. :-)
I found a note dated March 2001 to tech@ detailing similar behavior
(appended), but no followups. I can find no indication of reports
from or after that time to bugs_(_at_)__(_dot_)_
The following is *not* a GENERIC kernel dmesg, sorry to say, but the
fairly overloaded router's just not at all happy if all its NICs are
in and the kernel isn't tweaked heavily. The kernel is a fresh
compile based on 2.9-stable from about 2200 GMT 25 Jul 2001.
I'm heading out for about ten days of vacation; if it's useful I'd be
happy to strip the system back to 2.9-GENERIC at that time and submit
further information if useful.
