exec or no?

Hey again,

Just was browsing around, noticed groups executes id directly, whoami used 
to do this, but was changed 20 odd months ago to use exec. Should we 
also change groups to use exec?

Doesn't matter much either way I don't believe, just looking for a 
consistency, use exec in a wrapper like this or no?
