 As an update on the bug report, I have adjusted some kernel parameters
 using sysctl, and the problems seem to have gone away:
 
 net.inet.tcp.recvspace = 32768
 net.inet.tcp.sendspace = 32768
 
 (this is double the default buffer space for ip4)
