console hangs, but machine still up

Hi all,

I'm running OpenBSD 2.4 (the December release) and I've got what
for me is a strange problem.

Every other night (now more regularly than last week) I come into
work and find that my firewall (the OpenBSD 2.4 box) console is
locked up. I can type maybe one return or two and then it just
hangs not allowing any other input.

Since it is my firewall, I only allow console login and so I cannot
get in the machine to look around and see what's going on.

The machine is NOT down. The firewall is an application layer
firewall and I'm able to connect into some ports on the firewall
but not others. Some stuff gets proxied across the firewall
and works perfectly. Other stuff (like smtpd) is dead. Well,
I should say the tcp connection can be established, but then
the daemon does not respond.

As far as I know, this behavior has only appeared in the morning
(after something runs at night?). I'm not certain of this though.

Any thing I should check?
