GENERIC.MP fail on Transmeta TM5600; How do I investigate without serial?

bsd.mp.i386:

bsd.mp.i386 just stops dead in boot after:

This laptop has no serial port - any suggestions as to how I can capture 
additional info on the bsd.mp.i386 boot failure?
