In fact, it was not my idea. Sven Guckes (of vim, mutt, slrn, screen fame)
actually asked for such options in a discussion in a newsgroup, when he
saw really ugly grepping for IP addresses the 100th time.

As ifconfig is different on every platform, you can't use it for
crossplatform tasks, anyway (not without lots of hassle). BTW, I wrote
the same kind of patch for net-tools (for Linux), implementing the same
options.

I wouldn't have made smaller the (source) code. TIMTOWTDI, BTW. This
applies to more languages than just Perl.
