I assume by the above statement that the scsi disk is at ID 5?
I vaguely remember something about sun roms assuming ID 0-3 are disks
and 4-6 are cd's or tape's or something...
I have A sparkserver 5 booting flawlessly from an external disk at ID 2
You could try to rejumper your external disk to a free number in the range
0-3.
I could be wrong but I can't see how it hurts to try...
