I don't understand this.  If someone wanted to, they could look at the code
written, say 'oh, thats how you do it', aka use it as documentation and write
another entirely different code base that has no problems  .. because you're
not creating a derivative work, you're creating an original work based on
information from various 'sources' as it were.

Therefore, IBM's choice of GPL doesn't dis-allow competition from using it.
In fact, if they release their modifications to IBM, they can use it anyway.

Like I said in the first place, I believe they jumped the GPL bandwagon, which
afaikt means Hurd or Linux.
