PPP and su

Hello,

There was a (brief) discussion on tech a few weeks ago concerning dialup
problems with PPP. Basically, it sometimes takes *several* attempts
before I can get my modem to dial. On the failed attempts, PPP either
bails out with a "Chat Script Failed" error, or just does nothing. I was
just wondering if there have been any updates to the PPP package since
the problem was first discussed, or if any ways to work around this
problem were found.

Also, I noticed that when I actually do get connected, through root or su,
if I su on a different console (or xterm if I'm in X) the connection
drops. No errors whatsoever, it just drops.

I'm using a 56K 3Com/US Robotics X2/V.90 Data/Fax modem

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
~jjd
