I'll second this.  It's just a lot easier to administer with ports/packages
than building from source.  If it builds out of the box, yeah.. it's easy to
install, but upgrading or removing the package later becomes a PITA.

Shouldn't it be easy to build a port and package for something that builds
out of the box anyway ? :)
