I'm going to try to fix this in the near future.
Specifically, bsd.port.mk ought to be able to find out whether a file
transferred okay.
Trusting the exit code from ftp is probably not enough, since the
transfer can simply hang for various reasons. Storing the expected file
size in files/md5 as an additional safety ought to be enough to achieve
something slightly more user-friendly...
