Well as I don't run 2.6 anywhere on any build machine I don't do ports
anymore. I understand that it's a quality-ensuring decision, but it
also is a quantity-diminishing decision, as I suspect it effectively
cuts down the number of ports people to a third or less.
But if it works out, I am all for it, I am just very sceptic.
I have seen (or was it my idea, I don't recall), doing a branched
source tree, with port known working on last release on one branc, and
one branch with current. As it is now, I know a lot of people is
sitting on ports they cannot commit, thus preventing people with 2.6
to test and possibly fix and move over to the 2.6 branch.
Branching, however, has a higher risk of goof-ups, and going that way
means people must be prepared to see more tree-related problems than
normal. I am not sure it's worth it, but I think so.
