mesa in /usr/ports on OpenBSD 3.3?

Could someone explain the situation with mesa in /usr/ports? It doesn't
appear to be there in OpenBSD 3.3.

http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/ports/graphics/Mesa/ shows that it was
removed Sun Mar 24 20:50:22 2002, with cvs log message `remove stubs', which
I don't understand.

I've been unable to find any more information with google, so I'd be grateful
for any information about why mesa was removed from OpenBSD.
