Didn't get a hit on "Question about source file selection" in the Sept. archive
but I did get matches on bzip2. To summarize:

bzip2 compresses better than qzip, but qzip is significantly faster in decompression,
so faster download times may be offset by slower decompression times., expecially
on slower computers. However, for small files (to 15Mb) bzip2 still seems like a good idea.

bzip2 introduces yet another dependency.

I found nothing in the Sep 2002 ports archive addressing the issue raised by Marc
of bzip2's increased memory requirements. So the question re memory remains open.
