Just to be clear. You can use a RELEASE ports tree with a STABLE system.
and you can use a STABLE ports tree with RELEASE system (at least I've
gotten away with that so far).

It is when you start to use CURRENT that problems begin. In that case
system and ports must both be the same, CURRENT.

The RELEASE is what's on the CD.
The STABLE tree has been updated with important/security fixes.
