I realize that recompiling takes the least skill and effort, but I
don't think it's going to help either. The programs need to be
debugged. This won't happen on its own. By and large this also
won't happen if you report the problem to the maintainer. "I don't
have that platform", he says and shrugs. If something doesn't work,
you need to sit down and fix it yourself.

The -stable branch has a fix that makes devel/gmp build on sparc64.
This is a dependency for a number of ports, in particular python,
which in turn is a dependency for lots more.
