Let me re-phrase: what did you have do to pkgconfig to "get linking with
threads right"? :)

The reason I ask is that the stock 0.12 is seriously broken when it
comes to handling -pthread and the port has been patched for this (and
the patches have since been incorporated into 0.13).  If there are
additional patches needed then they need to go upstream too (and
hopefully they won't say "patches from the FreeBSD guys" again this time
:)).
