boot -c and some kernel reconfiguration did the trick for me.

And this wouldn't connect, neither with -c or -o, just said "Using
/dev/tty02" and sat there.

Since it seems that my phone doesn't have modem capabilities, which only
came after the 6100 series, I'll be having fun with getting gnokii to
work. Unless you are already busy on that.
