I've had other weirdness from openmotif and/or nedit under sparc (not
sparc64) including: one day on 3.1-stable nedit started core dumping on load
(rebuilding openmotif sorted the problem, but shouldn't have made any
difference since it was the same version/OS as the original build); from
time to time, nedit ignores key modifiers and just inserts control codes
into the doc. This affects every nedit open on your X desktop (quitting out
of X is the only solution I've found).

Whether there is any link between these problems and your problem, I have no
idea (your ones do seem a bit more X resources orientated). The problem I've
had is that most of these things are so random I've never been able to
detect any pattern that would give me a hint as to where the problem might
lie.
