Hello Björn, and thank you for the mplayer port.

Video output works fine here, x11 being the fastest.
I was rather pleased with the performance on my PII-233Mhz CPU - can
actually watch DivX movies now (Windows DivX codec was way too slow
to be usable on the same machine).

Using default 'mp3lib' as audio decoder did not work for some reason:

(...
Detected audio codec: [mp3] drv:1 (MPEG layer-2, layer-3)
Selecting Audio Decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
init layer2&3 finished, tables done
mp3lib: using Pentium optimized decore!

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: init_audio_codec
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
...)

I installed mad libraries and recompiled mplayer with
CONFIGURE_ARGS+=--with-extraincdir=/usr/local/include \
		--with-extralibdir=/usr/local/lib

Using 'mad' codec for decoding audio streams and 'oss' as audio output
- this way it works fine on my machine.

Would be nice to have different flavors for mplayer (mad, sdl, gui, etc.)

This is how it looks here:

$ mplayer -vo x11 -ao oss -ac mad the_jackal.avi
