Well, /service is a "run-time" directory. I've been using /var/service
on all my daemontools installations when I run svscan (mind you, they
were all pre-0.76 installations). No binaries actually "hard-code" that
directory. You use what you want to use. djb might highly recommend
/service (ie. put a gun on your head), but nevertheless, you still can
use any directory you wish.
This is outside the scope of the actual ports and slashpackage situation
because djb always "recommended" to use /service.

Let say we wait for that to happen.

People on djb's mailing lists are for the most parts very helpful and
apart from djb, they don't discriminate.
