securing an insecure line

Hiy all

Could someone help me with the following situation?
I have this setup:

Linux box ---Ether---- FreeBSD router +++++++telephone(ppp)ISP
I also have an OpenBSD SPARC hanging around not doing much at the moment
for want of a MAU.
My question is this: is there any way to secure the traffic between my ISP
(who can be regarded as ignorant) and my router? I have a Linux box at
work that I log into using SSH. Is ther a way to use it as a kind of
filter? I am also looking for an excuse to replace Linux with preferably
openbsd and put that on the router as well. Any tips?

Thanks a bunch
