Well, being one that has used debian linux for over six months (and
linux in general for 2 years), I know that debian's installation is
in some ways very similar to the freebsd installation -- you're asked
right off if you want to setup networking, and if you want ftp, it
pretty much just sets it up for you right there.

And yes, trying to install ANYTHING over ftp on a slow connection is
almost bound to break miserably.  I know because I've tried it with
little success...
