ftp installation hangs

Hello,

I am trying an ftp install, and I seem to have gotten it mostly to work.
I am routing through another small unix box connected to the internet by
a modem.

The install disk downloads the base distibution files up to a certain
point, then without error, just stops. I still have a ppp connection
up and running, but no ftp data flowing.

It always stops at the same place in the install: 

./var/www/icons/movie.gif

Does this file appear at the end of one of the archives? 
Perhaps something is not spawning. 
Has this happened to anyone else?
