In general this is not true.
There are junk round cables just as there are junk flat cables. If you
use round cables, buy them from a reputable mfr, buy from a mfr that has
test results published somewhere.

Well, I've tried two sets of rounded cables with no luck (although both
sets were generic), I'll try some flat cables tonight, although I've none
that are single-terminal. I noticed no difference between the first set
of rounded, unshielded, 18" two-terminal cables and the 2nd set of
shorter (12") shielded rounded cables. I can probably position the flat
cables to not block airflow. Will post results in the next few days.
