Daniel,

Thanks for your suggestions, but I'm afraid they're not particularily
apropos to my problem. I noted the change over to gcc3.x for OBSD/i386,
however, I don't think that the changeover is either relevant or
pertinent to the difficulty I am having with trying to build a profile
kernel. I have been able to build a GENERIC -current non-profile kernel
with my month-old (i.e. gcc2.9x-based) system from the -current CVS
files. So, I don't think it's a gcc-version problem. Anyway, I've
tried to make a profile kernel in the past (many months ago) and the
same problem showed up.

As far as staying current, at least on the CVS side, I have the most
current version of the CVS tree (thanks to daily cvsyncs). So, I don't
think the problem lies there. And the upgrade-minifaq does not address
making a profile kernel.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I'm still left with the problem of not
being able to compile a profile kernel.

David
