Thank you for the suggestion, Nick. My final solution was to
delete the array, and rebuild with two seperate spanned arrays,
assigning one drive only to each array. This appears to have
done the same job as what you were suggesting. The second drive
has a new bootlabel, and is now mounted as /home.
