Yes. The developers go to great pains to ensure a stable platform.
What, you think Theo's never heard of compile options? Or that he and
the rest of the gang have some twisted desire that you run a slow
system while they chuckle evilly in their dungeons on their uber-fast
systems compiled with all the secret hacks?
On the other hand, if you're looking to experiment, to learn the
effects of compiler optimization, perhaps even to fix what breaks--by
all means, experiment! Take it apart, put it back together again in
different ways, and have fun. Of course, you'll also need to understand
the code and the compiler, which is no small task.
But you'd be nuts to do so for anything other than a learning
environment....
