Are you sure about that? I have the following in 
~/.procmailrc and it works just fine with Courier-IMAP/SSL 
from the ports since sendmail uses procmail as local mailer:

DROPPRIVS=yes
PATH=/home/alex/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin
YEARMONTH=`date +%Y-%m`
DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/$YEARMONTH-Inbox
MAILDIR=$HOME/Maildir
