software updates

Hi folks,

this is /mod/offtopic... but I hope some fine people
could help me out because there are a lot of smart
developers on this list.

I'm looking for a SDK, or someone to help me find out
more information on how to implement (or purchase) a
software updating system that updates binaries. Not a
system that patches binaries, but will check and
replace binaries if they are out of date (checking
md5's of course). I know OpenBSD doesn't do binary
updates and I'm not suggesting that at all, but this
is for a personal project of mine.

I'm almost looking for a system that does equivalent
to a Windows Updating system, but for Unix
applications. Anyone know of any tools? I guess the
apt-get debian system is somewhat like what I'm
looking for. Any other ideas?

much appreciated.

b.
