Another approach would be to discard the idea of a single gateway and 
use a combination of email and web/ftp protection on a seperate box. For 
example, I have a HOWTO for setting up email virus protection on a qmail 
server at http://www.sancho2k.net/filemgmt/singlefile.php?lid=24 and you 
can find a couple of projects on freshmeat to integrate web-bourne virus 
protection through the Squid proxy/cache.
