buy a notebook-to-ide adapter?

you could just run the disk in your desktop. you could do a basic install
and then copy stuff over your home net. or if the drives have reasonably
similar geometry, you might get lucky and just be able to dd the disk...

     GDB has a 'break' feature; why doesn't it have 'fix' too?
