new gzip/compress

not sure if this a feature request or not, but the gnu gzip was
able to decompress a "corrupt" file, be it crc errors or what not,
up to the corrupt point (for the rest, you were on your own).

is this an idea to take from gnu gzip, or was it purposefully left
out?
