What went wrong with the backout script? Were you unable to compile the OS,
or did the "patch" not apply correctly? If the patch installed and
compiled, it's possible that the bug in the driver isn't the cause of your
problems. I just had an issue with -current where it would reboot when it
detected my 2940UW; changing the boot order in the BIOS (?) solved it. I
was initially concerned I'd have a "chicken-and-egg" problem; I couldn't
apply the patch since I couldn't boot, and I have no other -current machines
right now.
In addition, the driver problem is between the 2940 cards, the driver, and
*some* PCI BIOSs. Your 2940 may work in another box like a champ.
