Another test would be to see if the traffic is leaving the box at all. 
You could try getting Windump (http://windump.polito.it/) to run on it 
and see if any traffic hits its interface from the obsd box. Or connect 
them with a hub between them and a sniffer hanging off the hub to see if 
traffic is crossing the wire between them. Or a bridge to verify that L2 
communication is OK.
