2.9: make build fails.

building a 2.9 system. I have symbolic links from /usr/src -> src
directory and /usr/obj -> object directory. BSDSRCDIR=true path name
to sources.

make obj
make build

fails on:

make: don't know how to make mdc2dgst.c. Stop in /usr/src/lib/libssl/obj/crypto.
*** Error code 2

Stop in /usr/src/lib/libssl/obj.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/src/lib/libssl (line 545 of /usr/src/lib/libssl/Makefile.bsd-wrapper).
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/src/lib.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/src (line 79 of Makefile).

I'm using the ftp'ed files, but they are the same size as the ones on
the CD.

Anyone remember that far back who could suggest a fix?
