nfsd and linux-clients

hi and happy new year. :o)

i'm running openBSD3.2 on my server (mond)
the client (erde) is an ibook running debian sarge, 2.4.20-ben1_mh4.

when i try to mount a diectory via nfs the console just freezes. 

bash-2.05b# cat /etc/exports 
/xchange -alldirs -network 192.168.1 -mask 255.255.255.0

i read about performance problems with my server-NIC (rtl8139).
but it does not mount at all.
no network problems with standard traffic (http, stmp,..)
i once had this problem with openBSD2.9 and worked around using smb.
but i don't need/want samba any more.

am i just doing something wrong?
or is this a known problem?
