NIC watchdog timeout wuth PCI Riser Card

Hello all,

hope i didnt miss any relevant posts in the archives.
My problem is the following:

I recently installed 3.1 on a customers firewall (see dmesg attached)
Two NICs are placed in the PCI-Riser Card (its a chenbro 2U case).
The lower one works fine. the upper causes kernel messages 
'watchdog timeout'. 
I tested the upper slot with Realtek (rl) and 3Com NIC (xl)
At last i changed the riser itself without success.
Manpage didnt give me any advice to this specific message,
because the cards work fine without the riser.
They are also recognized by kernel and BIOS when fit in the riser card.

Hope you can give me any advice or workaround

Note: The dmesg is from the self compiled kernel, but default kernel
will cause the same errors.
