Find a switch and hang it off the DTR on the serial port.
Many UPS daemons will watch for a transition and run something on
that signal.
The other (better) answer is to disconnect the power switch and
'splain to them that "this computer isn't running Windows. Windows
needs to be shutdown every night, but this is a server. It does
maintenance at night and will last longer if its on all the time.
Each power cycle stresses the system and makes it angry. If you
keep doing it, it will wake up and hurt your network one day.
Leave it on."
Maybe wire the shutdown button to something that emits "shutting
down in 20 minutes" to the speaker.
