cd0c problems

I've had a recurring problem with my CD-RW drive, and I've found
references to it on the tech@ mailing list, albeit quite old ones.
Occasionally, when using programs like cdio and cdrecord, I get
odd error messages popping up in blue, like
cd0(atapiscsi0:0:0): Check Condition on opcode 0x43
    SENSE KEY: Illegal Request
     ASC/ASCQ: Illegal Field in CDB
         SKSV: Error in CDB, Offset 0
cd0(atapiscsi0:0:0): Check Condition on opcode 0x28
    SENSE KEY: Illegal Request
     ASC/ASCQ: Logical Block Address Out of Range

or things about the drive not being ready.  Has anyone else had these 
problems?
