If that was the case I guess the GENERIC wouldn't work either...

May I ask you to e-mail me your dmesg output and your two config files 
(/usr/src/sys/arch/sparc/conf/YOUR_CONFIG and /usr/src/sys/conf/YOUR_CONFIG) ?
